It was 2012 and I was attending the Peña Literaria hosted by Maestro Carlos García at Talento Bilingüe de Houston. Many of his students came to participate in the monthly literary sharing of impromptu performances. Readings, song and acting were among the artistic performances that evening along with food and wine.
I had been attending Maestro Carlin’s writing class where he had challenged me to write in Spanish, something that was stretching my creativity as I normally write in English. I wrote several poems in his class and remember the experience fondly now. Maestro Carlin is no longer living and he is greatly missed.
With manuscript in hand, I attended the Peña that evening and I presented my book to the public for the first time. It was a valuable exercise to present my reading to classmates, friends, and loved ones, in the camaraderie of this event.
You can watch a clip of the reading of The Lady of The Turquoise Pendant, First Reading, Part 1. I hope you enjoy it.
