2015 Year-end Recap

As 2015 comes to a close I can only feel more strongly that I must continue to live purposefully, faithfully…truthful to myself.

In early 2015 I set out to share more about natural health and wellness so that with greater understanding, more people can feel comfortable to try natural alternatives to maintain and improve their well-being. I launched the Natural Health & Wellness Workshop Series 2015 along with three great practitioners who helped me illustrate and share several options and practices.

In March I was elated, proud and humbled to learn I was recognized with the Woman of the Year – Woman in Arts Award presented by Sucesos Newspaper and Solo Mujeres Magazine as part of their 8th Tribute to Hispanic Women. It was wonderfully exciting to be among this cadre of successful women I now call my friends.

In April I joined once again my fellow art studio neighbors to have our Spring Open Studio & Art Sale. The Guiton St. Artists opened their doors to old friends and new, sharing fresh new art. My exhibit presented the latest paintings from the Mexico Series and I opened my “back room” with other pieces I have available.

May was a month to see what was happening in our community and consider how to help create change by learning from others.

In June I was off to Kerrville, Texas where I participated in the first Kerrville Chalk Festival. I was excited to join with old friends and new in this event and very proud to be invited for the Festival in 2016.

In June I was also invited by my friend Ivette Mayo to be a Power Speaker for the Power Year Series – Creating a Powerful You, a national empowering call-in program to give women tools to reach success. I spoke on Power Health ~ Think Natural Health to let listeners know they can better manage their health naturally.

July was so much fun with my return to the First Saturday Arts Market. The event is like a family reunion where you see old family and meet the new arrivals, all in great art brought together by the wonderful Mitchell Cohen.

July was also a time for helping others and giving back. I hosted an Art Extravaganza for the Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas (HWNT) to raise funds for the Latinas In Progress Scholarship (LIPS) to help young high school students get to college.

August was a time for R&R, and as always for me, to gain new experiences. Observing and willing to learn, I came home to share what I saw.

The year’s activities wrapped up with the Guiton St. Artists’ Fall Open Studio & Art Sale, the second of our annual group shows that invite the public to our studios to see fresh new art. And mine was truly fresh, wet paint off the easel to feature new work in the Big Bend Landscape Series.

Me and my much admired grandmother, December 2015.

I close the year with a heavy heart. The woman who inspired me on all of these paths, who taught me to admire nature and what it provides us to heal and enjoy our life; to be a positive example and always excel in my own actions and endeavors; to be creative and enjoy the process and the outcome; to give back for the pleasure of giving and sharing; to enjoy friends and community; and to find a way to make it all worthwhile for doing what I enjoy each day…this and many more ways to challenge myself to be my best…this independent woman, my grandmother of 97, has gone off to her next phase in spirit form. I will miss our weekly recaps but I know she’ll be knowing where I go. And for all she has given me, I am very thankful.

May your new year be everything you hope for, and more.
